Davis Turner is a successful and experienced logistics company with an annual turn over of £114 million and 24 branches.
Davis Turner also have overseas partners in more than 100 locations, nationwide delivery and international trucking fleet.
Davis Turner have approximately 700 employees in the UK and Ireland, their IT department situated in Dartford, Kent.
Steady expansion across three centuries has seen the company develop strategic alliances with strong regional partners worldwide, and a comprehensive branch network throughout the UK and Ireland.
The company is now the leading international freight and logistics service provider in the British Isles – with the same independent ownership and management for over a century.
The Objective
Davis Turner were challenged to modernise their operations and the ease in which they develop and deploy further applications, this would modernise the way their business was run allowing customers to order online and track their orders.
In order for this to be achieved, they needed to integrate information on the System i with an Oracle application on a HP Unix box used for their Logistics Operations.
The Solution
SpaceTec introduced IceBreak and Database Proxy software to Davies Turner to overcome their problems with modernisation and data integration.

The Result
Database Proxy and IceBreak helped Davies Turner seamlessly export data using RPG from DB2 on their System i Servers to external oracle database.
“We looked at a variety of cross database solutions – but by far the easiest to work with and most cost effective was the IceBreak solution and DBProxy. We have now implemented immediate updates to our Logistics Solution sat on an external Oracle database coming from our core business IBM System i server. Again, management through a web interface Admin menu, is simple and effective.”
