BlueSeries sms imageSMS Communicator can handle
SMS communication between the AS/400 or IBM System i
and any GSM phone in the world. The SMS Communicator
can easily be integrated in other AS/400 or IBM System i
application, without changes in these.
The following lists some of the features
found in SMS Communicator:
SMS can be sent automatically from the IBM System i or
manually from the Windows client or from the 5250
screen. Inbound
SMS is received on the PC-client, on the 5250 screen
or they can be routed to an e-mail address The
original SMS message and reply are saved in the
system log file. Incoming
SMS messages can auto-matically start a program
or return an answer from the IBM System i. SMS
replies and incoming SMS can be read on a PC-Client
or a 5250 monitor. SMS
Communicator is fully scalable, which means that
the system can handle up to 6.000.000 SMS per month.
Below is listed some examples on how SMS Communicator
can be used in the daily workflow.
Customer Service
When a car is in the workshop
for service or repair, a SMS is sent to the customer
once the car is ready for pick-up. The foreman notifying
the system that the work on the car is complete,
triggers that the SMS is send (and that an invoice
is created).
Quotes for special repair work are also sent as
SMS. The price is send to the customer who is given
the option to reply and confirm acceptance. The
dialog is logged on the IBM System i minimizing the risk
for unfortunate misunderstandings.
Integration to the ERP system
A haulage contractor must wait until a signed delivery
note is in hand before producing an invoice. But
sheer physical distance can often delay things.
With SMS Communicator the process is speeded
up significantly
The driver sends an SMS with the Order Number to
the data center immediately after the delivery of
the goods has been signed for. Order Numbers received
via SMS Communicator are passed to the financial
application for automatic processing, and an invoice
is created.
